Follow up on the Reflexology ban in Uganda

Do you remember the Reflexology ban in 2011 by the then Minister of Health Dr Stephen Mallinga in Uganda? here

The reflexology ban in Uganda has caused great hardship to many reflexologists. Staff at TASO (The AIDS Support Organisation) and Hospice Africa (Uganda) report that the clients / patients were having regular reflexology treatments which were helping to relieve their stressful and painful symptoms. They are all missing out on this very comforting therapy and also the skilled therapists, who had passed the written and practical exams, may lose their expertise in reflexology if they do not use it. Well it seems the ban is now over. here and here:
"It is apparent that the council did not share their findings with the reflexologists. I find that the applicants were not given a right to defend themselves, which was wrong," the judge said.
The practitioners were also awarded for costs incurred. The ruling implies that the practitioners can resume their activities including advertisements in the media which had previously been halted.

Reflexology is the application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas on the feet, hands, or ears.
Government ordered to compensate reflexology practitioners for having closed them illegaly.

Appreciation for all her hard work over the years, heart-felt congratulations and the honour of winning such a prestigious award were paid to Betsy Keating by the International Council of Reflexologists Betsy was nominated and won the Humanitarian Award 2011. She was presented with a stunning Crystal Globe Trophy in Sheffield on January 13, 2012. This was given in recognition of her pioneer work developing Reflexology services and training in Uganda and in other areas of need in the UK.

Considerations
- I remember that those Reflexologists where supposedely wearing stethoscopes and taking blood samples. If this was true, was it still correct to ban them or not?
- If the previous was true, have the Reflexologists gotten their act together now or not?
- Why was the Attorney General not represented at the ruling. If he was, what would have been the outcome then. here
- How many Reflexologists around the world actually knew about this ban?
- Why did they not take any action to support our fellow colleagues? Only 32 signed the petition!

Οι τελειόφοιτοι του Κέντρου Ρεφλεξολογίας και Έρευνας, θα παρουσιάσουν τις προσεγγίσεις τους σε θέματα σχετικά με τη Ρεφλεξολογία, το πεπτικό σύστημα, τον συναισθηματικό νου, την υγεία, την ευεξία και την ποιότητα ζωής, τα οποία έχουν επεξεργαστεί κατά τη διάρκεια της διετούς εκπαίδευσής τους.
Μέσω θεωρητικών και βιωματικών προσεγγίσεων, θα δοθεί η ευκαιρία στους συμμετέχοντες να γνωρίσουν άγνωστες για πολλούς πτυχές και δυνατότητες που υπάρχουν μέσα σε κάθε άνθρωπο.

ΣΙΛΩΝ ΑΝΕΘΗΚΕ - Η ΑΝΑΖΩΟΓΟΝΗΣΗ ΜΕΣΩ ΤΟΥ ΑΚΡΟΥ ΠΟΔΑ

Το ανάγλυφο στο εξώφυλλο βρέθηκε πίσω από το Ά Στρατιωτικό Νοσοκομείο το 1905 και φωτογραφήθηκε από τον ιατρό Αρ. Π. Αραβαντινό για το βιβλίο του Ασκληπιός και Ασκληπιεία (1907). Στο κάτω μέρος του ανάγλυφου υπάρχει η επιγραφή ΣΙΛΩΝ ΑΝΕΘΗΚΕ. Ο ιατρός Αραβαντινός μη μπορώντας να ερμηνεύσει την αποτύπωση του ανθρώπου εντός του σανδαλιού στάθηκε στην ερμηνεία του συμβόλου του όφεως, που συνοδεύει πάντα τα αγάλματα τόσο της Υγείας όσο και του Ασκληπιού. Ο όφις λοιπόν, ο οποίος αποβάλλει το παλαιό του δέρμα και την θέση του παίρνει ένα νέο, συμβολίζει την αναζωογόνηση και ανανέωση του οργανισμού.

 Σήμερα όμως έχοντας υπ' όψιν μας την επιστήμη της Ρεφλεξολογίας είμαστε σε θέση να ερμηνεύσουμε σε νέα βάση το ανάγλυφο. Διατηρώντας τις σημαντικές περί του όφεως παρατηρήσεις διαπιστώνουμε ότι στο σύνολό του εκφράζει την αναζωογόνηση και ανανέωση ολόκληρου του ανθρωπίνου σώματος μέσω του άκρου πόδα. Θα παρατηρήσουμε όμως ότι η αντανάκλαση του σώματος στον πόδα γίνεται κατά αντίθετη φορά από τους σύγχρονους ρεφλεξολογικούς χάρτες. Το κεφάλι βρίσκεται στο ύψος της πτέρνας ενώ οι πόδες στις φάλαγγες. Επίσης παρατηρούμε ότι το σανδάλι που αφιέρωσε ο Σίλων είναι το δεξί και ο άνθρωπος που απεικονίζεται (πιθανότατα ο ίδιος ο Σίλων) φανερώνει την δεξιά του πλευρά. Το στοιχείο αυτό επιβεβαιώνει την θεωρία των κάθετων ζωνών και του χωρισμού των αριστερών - δεξιών οργάνων και λειτουργιών στον αριστερό - δεξιό αντίστοιχα πόδα.

Study claims reflexology is 'effective pain relief'

Dr Carol Samuel, who is a trained reflexologist and who carried out the experimental procedures as part of her PhD studies, said it was the first time this therapy had been scientifically tested as a treatment for acute pain.

She said the results suggested that reflexology could be used to complement conventional drug therapy in the treatment of conditions associated with pain such as osteoarthritis, backache and cancers.
Reflexology is a complementary medical approach, which works alongside orthodox medicine, in which pressure may be applied to any body area but is commonly used on either the feet or hands.

Ρεφλεξολογία όπως λέμε... παυσίπονο

Παρόμοια δράση με τα παυσίπονα φάρμακα έχει η εναλλακτική θεραπεία, σύμφωνα με μελέτη

Παυσίπονη δράση και με διάρκεια έχει η ρεφλεξολογία σύμφωνα με νέα βρετανική μελέτη που διεξήχθη από ειδικούς του Πανεπιστημίου του Πόρτσμουθ. Όπως έδειξαν δοκιμές, τα άτομα που υποβάλλονται σε θεραπείες ρεφλεξολογίας βιώνουν κατά 40% λιγότερο πόνο, με αποτέλεσμα να μπορούν να τον υπομένουν για 45% περισσότερο χρόνο, συγκριτικά με άλλους.

Οι ερευνητές υποστηρίζουν ότι πρόκειται για την πρώτη φορά που η εναλλακτική ιατρική μέθοδος που βασίζεται σε μαλάξεις και πιέσεις των άκρων δοκιμάζεται επιστημονικά για την αποτελεσματικότητά της ενάντια στον οξύ πόνο.
Σύμφωνα με την δρα Κάρολ Σάμιουελ, τα αποτελέσματα δείχνουν ότι η ρεφλεξολογία θα μπορούσε να χρησιμοποιηθεί ως συμπληρωματική θεραπεία σε περιπτώσεις ασθενών που ταλαιπωρούνται από οστεοαρθρίτιδα, πόνους στην πλάτη και καρκίνους.

Ουσία 1η = το θεραπευτικό πρωτόκολλο

The reflexology protocol was composed of 9 steps working the reflexes in this order:

1. Spine as the gateway to the Central Nervous System.
2. Chest/Lung as the breast reflex was the primary location of the cancer.
3. Lungs on the plantar surface of the feet were worked because of the 3-dimensional nature of the body and some cancer sites are deep within the breast.
4. Diaphragm for the reduction of stress. The diaphragm is the first place we carry stress. Constriction of the diaphragm keeps one from breathing deeply, slowing circulation. Working the diaphragm reflex allows for deeper breathing, increased circulation to the lungs, and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the chemo traveling throughout the system, as well as facilitating a pathway for the release of chemicals after they have accomplished their desired effect.
5. Kidneys for stress and detoxification.
6. Adrenal glands for stress and detoxification.
7. Spleen, as a blood purifier, helps to raise blood cell count, and energy level.
8. Intestines both small and large colon for detoxification: The small intestine to absorb the treatment and large intestine to release the chemicals.
9. Lymphatic system—the upper and lower lymph reflexes for tissue drainage and immunity.

NIH Awards a Second 5-Year (2011-2016) Grant for $2.65 million
This grant will use the same protocol to study the effects of the 9-steps reflexology protocol with primary caregivers delivering the sessions. The reflexologists who participated in the first grant are now training the primary caregivers to deliver the 9-steps.

Hippocrates first pair of veins (meridians)

The description of the first pair of Meridians starts as follows: “One pair extends from behind the head through the neck, and on either side of the spine externally reaches to the loins and legs….”. The information Hippocrates is providing, allows us to assume that the first pair of Meridians coincides with the Chinese Bladder Meridian (Foot Taiyang). Moreover, then, the ancient text mentions, “and then stretches through the shanks to the outside of the ankles and to the fee...t …”. This is exactly the course of the Foot Taiyang.
The ancient text, concerning the first pair, concludes in this way: “So bleeding for pains in the back and loins should be made on or at the ankle”. Here, Hippocrates provides us with additional information pertaining to the course of the first pair: namely, that it passes from the back of the knee, at the exterior aspect of the hamstring. However, apart from this detail, Hippocrates here mentions a healing technique. This technique is connected with the course of this first pair of Meridians. Consequently, Ancient Greeks had theoretical, as well as practical knowledge, of a healing technique that pertained to the courses of their own Meridian system.
The aforementioned analysis of the Meridians is not done for theoretical purposes, but for the training in this healing technique, which in fact, is called “venesection” in the original text. (In the English text we have used the translator uses the word “bleeding” whereas in the ancient text the word that is originally used is “venesection”).
Another important factor is that the intervention Hippocrates calls “venesection” (translated as “bleeding”), is not performed on the painful area (in case of pain at the back and loins, the therapist focuses at the exterior aspect of the hamstrings and the ankles).
These two factors, combined with the suggested technique called “venesection”- “bleeding” (it can be assumed that it involved an incisive tool) lead us to the conclusion that Hippocrates knew and practiced a healing technique similar, if not identical, with Chinese acupuncture.
suggested that this technique has many practical and theoretical similarities with acupuncture. The channels system, which Hippocrates uses, to perform this healing technique (venesection), are called veins. It maybe suggested, that they have many similarities with the Chinese Meridian Network.

Reiki, Rolfing and Reflexology: Proposed Exemption in Colorado

A just-introduced bill in Colorado would expressly exempt several bodywork modalities from most state regulation.
Included in the exemptions are reflexology; Rolfing; mind-body centering; Orthobionomy; and "practices with the primary purpose of affecting energy systems of the human body," including reiki and Healing Touch.
SB 215, or The Colorado Natural Health Consumer Protection Act, is being touted by the National Health Freedom Coalition as a move to protect access to "traditional, complementary and alternative health care practitioners in Colorado." The coalition lobbies for health-freedom laws nationwide.
The bill does provide for some oversight of the exempted practices, stating that a person providing complementary and alternative health care services must disclose to clients the practitioner's educational

background and the nature of the services to be provided. The bill also prohibits complementary and alternative health care practitioners from engaging in activities that only state-regulated health care professionals may perform.
