“We use a lot of reflexology and healing touch,” said Hartman, co-founder and coordinator of Holy Redeemer’s complementary therapy program.

Reflexology involves massage of the hands or feet that puts pressure on nerve endings to create a relaxed state, she said. Healing touch, in which the provider gently places their hands slightly above or on the fully clothed patient, is an energy-based therapy and holistic nursing practice that “creates a peaceful detached contemplative state — really deep relaxation.”

Leader of the National Council of Hospice and Palliative Professionals Allied Therapy Section of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, Hartman has more than 23 years’ experience in the hospice field.

Fear, worry and stress — byproducts of a life-threatening illness — can manifest themselves physiologically as anxiety, difficulty breathing and nausea. While traditional health care practices are used to treat the illness, complementary therapies including reflexology, massage, healing touch, bedside harp and aromatherapy can bring patients and their caregivers a sense of peace.

To measure the effect of the complementary therapies, “we look for nonverbal signs of stress and tension and at the end [of a therapy session] we see some relaxation and if they are able to speak to me they will verbally say it’s a great relief,” Hartman said. Studies are also being done to determine the efficacy of the therapies by measuring the amount of cortisol and adrenalin — stress hormones — in the blood stream, she said.

McLaughlin Durham Region Cancer Centre η αντιμετώπιση του πόνου χρειάζεται πολυπαραγοντική ομάδα,.....ναι, προσφέρουν και Ρεφλεξολογία! Στην Αγγλία κάνουν επείγουσα έκκληση για εθελοντές που να γνωρίζουν ΣΕΘ και εγώ προσπαθώ να αποδείξω ότι ΔΕΝ είμαι ελέφαντας!

Το 2011 έχει ανακυρυχθεί έτος εθελοντισμού, γνωρίζω προσωπικά πολλούς Ρεφλεξολόγους και άλλους επαγγελματίες των ΣΕΘ που έχουν προσφέρει εθελοντικά (Μαραθώνιο Αθηνών, Αγώνες ΣΔΥΠ, ΣΔΥΑ, Αμυμώνη κ.α) αλλά και σπουδαστές, τουλάχιστον του Natural Health Science και ΚΕΡΕ. Γνωρίζω καιρό τώρα ότι πολλοί Ρεφλεξολόγοι διαβάζετε το παρών blog και αναρωτιέμαι τι κάθεστε έτσι σιωπηλά και δεν αναλαμβάνετε δράση, περιμένετε το σωματείο ΣΕΡ να κάνει κάτι, μα εσείς (εμείς) είστε (είμαστε) το σωματείο.

Σηκωθείτε λοιπόν από καρέκλες, μπαούλα, ντιβάνια......

Παράκληση προς τους Θεσαλλονικείς συναδέλφους: Ως πρώην αθλητής του Χάντ-μπωλ σας ζητώ να υποστηρίξτε - δηλώστε εθελοντές στους αγώνες νέων που θα γίνουν στην πόλη σας. Θα προσπαθήσω να έρθω και εγώ. Και δεν μιλάω για να μοιράζουμε νερά ή να συνοδεύουμε ομάδες, μιλάω για Ρεφλεξολογία, ..άντε και μάλαξη όσοι γνωρίζουν.

Σε ότι αφορά την δημοσίευση από την Αγγλία

To πιο ενδιαφέρον στο άρθρο (εκτός από την ίδια την έκκληση για εθελοντισμό) είναι οι τελευταίες παράγραφοι όπου γράφει “Ως ανταπόδωση της δέσμευσης των εθελοντών τους βοηθάμε στην επιδίωξη της συνεχιζόμενης επαγγελματικής εκπαίδευσης, προσφέροντας σε αυτούς την ευκαιρία να παρακολουθήσουν εργαστήρια -workshops.”

Υπάρχει έλλειψη θεραπευτών - therapists (Ναι έτσι τους αποκαλούν "θεραπευτές") στην περιοχή Wycombe. Οι εθελοντές θα πρέπει να έχουν παρακολουθήσει ανατομία και φυσιολογία (στην Ελλάδα κάνουμε και παθολογία, ..κάποιοι τουλάχιστον!) και εμπειρία ενός έτους. Urgent appeal for volunteer therapists in South Bucks

CHARITY has issued an urgent appeal for complementary therapists to help treat terminally ill patients in South Bucks.

The Buckinghamshire-based Iain Rennie Hospice at Home (IRHH) has an 'acute shortage' of voluntary practitioners.

Jackie Finegan, therapy co-ordinator, said: “Complementary therapies, such as reflexology, massage, craniosacral therapy and reiki, can make a huge difference to seriously ill patients, and their carers.

“For cancer patients, for example, it is a chance to have something pleasant, to relax and take time out from the stresses of their illness. We offer the therapies in the patient’s own home, in the same way as our nursing services, so they don’t have to go anywhere.”

She said with a growing patient caseload, IRHH nurses now have to concentrate all their time on their clinical work, rather than complementary therapies.

Jackie added: “The demand is growing all the time, and we badly need volunteers experienced in reflexology, massage therapy, aromatherapy and craniosacral therapy.

“We usually ask volunteers to commit to one half day a week, which enables them to visit two patients. I go with them on the first visit, and we offer a course of six treatments to patients and carers.

“In return for their commitment, we also help our volunteers to keep up their continuing professional development, a requirement for all practitioners, for example by offering them the chance to attend workshops.”

There is also a shortage of therapists in the Wycombe district. Volunteers should have an anatomy and physiology qualification and one year’s post-qualification experience. For more details contact the voluntary services team on 01494 877200 or rahmad@irhh.org

Διαβάζουμε ότι ένας οίκος ευγηρίας - care home προσφέρει μεταξύ άλλων και Ρεφλεξολογία στα ηλικιωμένα μέλη του! Πρόκειται για το Heatherdale Residential Care Home , ιδιωτικών συμφερόντων φαίνεται.

Από εδώ και στο εξής και άλλη ιδιωτική ασφαλιστική εταιρεία θα καλύπτει τα έξοδα για Ρεφλεξολογία.

Το Kay Kendall Leukaemia Fund θα χρηματοδοτήσει την παρουσία συμπληρωματικού θεραπευτή (20 ώρες εβδομαδιαίως) στο Nuneaton’s George Eliot Hospital και στον ξένώνα φροντίδας Mary Ann Evans hospice.
Οι θεραπείες θα είναι Ρεφλεξολογία, μασάζ και αρωματοθεραπεία.

Στους new York Times διαβάζουμε ότι η Μικρή Ιταλία - γειτονιά κατακλύζεται πια από καταστήματα Κινέζων Ρεφλεξολόγων.

Διαβάζουμε ότι οι Κόκκινοι Διάβολοι - φιλανθρωπική οργάνωση είναι άγγελοι για ασθενείς με καρκίνο του μαστού, προσφέρουν και ρεφλεξολογία!

Να φεύγεις από την ζωή με μασάζ και μουσική!

Διαβάσαμε για ένα ξενώνα περίθαλψης - hospice στο Palm Beach County όπου συνδυαστικές ομάδες μουσικών και χειρομαλακτών βοηθούν ασθενείς στο παρηγοριτικό στάδιο. Οι υπεύθυνοι μάλιστα λένε ότι αυτός ο συνδυασμός είναι αναπτυσσόμενη προσέγγιση στους ξενώνες περίθαλψης!

Nearly 42 percent of U.S. hospices offer some form of alternative medicine end-of-life care services -- such as massages or pet therapy -- to their patients and/or employ an alternative service provider, according to the latest data.

Διαβάσαμε στην ιστοσελίδα του buisnessweek ότι πάνω από 40% των ξενώνων προσφέρουν συμπληρωματικές υπηρεσιές όπως μασάζ για να βελτιώσουν την ποιότητα ζωής στο παρηγοριτικό στάδιο, δείχνουν τα στοιχεία.

Χρησιμοποιώντας στοιχεία από το 2007 μία ομάδα με αρχηγό την Αννίτα Μπέρκοβιτζ βρήκαν ότι το 72% των ξενώνων στις ΗΠΑ που προσφέρουν Συμπληρωματικές - Εναλλακτικές Θεραπείες ΣΕΘ τώρα προσφέρουν μάλαξη. 69% έχουν ομάδες υποστήριξης, 62% μουσικοθεραπεία, 59% θεραπεία με κατοικίδια - pet therapy, 53% υπηρεσίες διαλογισμού, όπως κατευθυνόμενη απεικόνιση - giuded imagery - ή τεχνικές χαλάρωσης.

Οι συγγραφείς παρατηρούν ότι, προηγούμενες έρευνες προτείνουν ότι ενώ οι ΣΕΘ δεν καλύπτονται από τις ασφαλιστικές εταιρείες, οι συγκεκριμένες υπηρεσίες μπορούν να βοηθήσουν να βελτιωθεί η ποιότητα ζωής ενός βαριά άρρωστου ανακουφίζοντας συμπτώματα πόνου και άγχους ενώ συγχρόνως προσφέρουν στοργή και βελτιώνουν την διάθεση.

Με αφορμή την παραπάνω δημοσίευση στοιχείων σκέφτομαι αυτά που λέγονται για τις έρευνες στις ΣΕΘ και την εκπαίδευση μας.
- Είναι οξύμωρο να επιμένουμε στην δημιουργία-υλοποίηση ερευνών με σκοπό να αποδείξουμε την αποτελεσματικότητα, το πως δουλεύει (είναι placebo δεν είναι) και την χρηστικότητα της Ρεφλεξολογίας ή των ΣΕΘ γενικότερα. Έχει αποδειχθει και καταγραφεί καιρό τώρα, μερίδα της Ιατρικής κοινότητας δεν το αναγνωρίζει και εμείς πασχίζουμε να το αναγνωρίσουν, δημόσια! Το επισημαίνω διότι όλοι έχουμε ανέκδοτες ιστορίες ιατρών που και τις χρησιμοποιούν και τις συστήνουν! Δεν προβλέπω σύντομα να ανακοινωθεί επίσημη τοποθέτηση θετική για τις ΣΕΘ, είναι σαν να μου λένε ....Σπυράκλα, ΟΚ προχώρα προσεκτικά, ωφέλιμα και σε χαμηλούς τόνους!

- Στην Αγγλία πάλι (μερικώς και στην Ελλάδα π.χ. ΝΗS και άλλοι) έχουν αναβαθμίσει την εκπαίδευση της Ρεφλεξολογίας με σκοπό να ανταποκριθούμε στις "εποχές". Έχω ανάμικτα συναισθήματα για αυτό, από τη μία πρέπει να προστατεύεται ο αποδέκτης της Ρεφλεξολογίας με ένα ελάχιστα ικανοποιητικό επίπεδο υπηρεσιών, από την άλλη, χρειάζεται ο αυριανός Ρεφλεξολογος περισσότερη θεωρητική γνώση στην βασική του εκπαίδευση? Γιατί? Θα γίνει ιατρός ή Φυσιοθεραπευτής, έχουμε στην Ελλάδα ήδη άριστους και πολλούς! Εγώ θα ήθελα να έβλεπα αυτό το παραπάνω της εκπαίδευσης να είναι στην πρακτική εφαρμογή σε ξενώνες φροντίδας, νοσοκομεία και όπου αλλού θα ωφελούσε.

Το ξέρατε ότι ο ειδικός Ρεφλεξολογικός χειρισμός γνωστός στους περισσότερους Ρεφλεξολόγους ως "κάμπια", στα Ιταλικά σημαίνει "αλλαγή".
Όταν Ρεφλεξολογείτε τα πράγματα αλλάζουν!



Στην σελίδα thespec.com διαβάσαμε ότι στο Χάμιλτον του Καναδά το ΔΣ της πόλης αποφάσισε να θεσπίσει μία νέα κατηγορία αδειοδότησης υπηρεσιών ευεξίας (με κόστος 300$) όπου θα αδειοδοτούνται και οι επαγγελματίες Ρεφλεξολόγοι. Η προσπάθεια γίνεται ώστε να διαχωριστούν οι επαγγελματίες από τους "άλλους" που χρησιμοποιούν την Ρεφλεξολογία, αρωματοθεραπεία κ.α. για βιτρίνα παράνομων δραστηριοτήτων "ποιος είπε πορνεία!" .

Από το Press Association διαβάζουμε ότι συζητήθηκε/προτάθηκε στην Βουλή των Λόρδων, να σταματήσει η χρηματοδότηση των πανεπιστημίων που διδάσκουν και δίδουν bachelor degree σε ψεύδο επιστήμες όπως ρεφλεξολογία, μπλα, μπλα , μπλα....

Αλλά ο Λόρδος Χένλευ εκπροσωπώντας την κυβέρνηση είπε ότι τα πανεπιστήμια είναι ανεξάρτητα και οι υπουργοί δεν πρέπει να παρεμβαίνουν. τα πανεπιστήμια αποφασίζουν τι θα διδάξουν,..... ακαδημαική ελευθερία κλπ.
Από πότε παίρνεις bachelor στην Ρεφλεξολογία, ......Αγγλία κανείς? Ήρεμα όλοι θα πάμε!

But Lord Henley, for the Government, said that universities are autonomous and ministers have "no power to intervene".

He added: "The universities decide what they should or should not teach. This is a key protection of academic freedom and helps to maintain the world class reputation of our higher education institutions."

Εδώ διαβάζουμε την ιστορία εθελοντισμού της κ. Λάρα Τρέβορ η οποία τα τελευταία 9 χρόνια είναι εθελόντρια Ρεφλεξολόγος στο νοσοκομείο του Νιούκαστλ. Η Λάρα είναι άτομο με προβλήματα όρασης!

Lara Trevor has spent the last nine years volunteering at Newcastle’s General Hospital offering free reflexology, aromatherapy and massage treatment to stroke and cancer patients.

Even though registered blind, Lara has not let this stop her helping others and she is using her determination and volunteering experience to open her own private practice in Byker. Lara and her husband Ken spotted the opportunity to develop a private practice as a way of making the move from unemployment to employment. The practice, Aroma Haven, opened in May and has a large number of regular clients who are impressed by Lara’s skill, passion and dedication.



Στην Ινδία διαβάσαμε ότι ξεκινάει πιλοτικό εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα υγείας όπου παιδιά 14 ετών θα διδάσκουν άλλα μικρότερα παιδιά. Θα δείξουν και Ρεφλεξολογία!

Along with routines that can be done at home daily for one's eyes, hands and breathing, there will also be a lesson in reflexology. For just £30, a patient can be treated to a session of complementary therapy, whether it is a massage, reflexology or aromatherapy, offering a patient the chance to relax and unwind.


Διαβάσαμε ότι στην Αγγλία για άλλο ένα κέντρο φροντίδας ογκολογικών ασθενών που προσφέρει πολλά και μεταξύ αυτών Ρεφλεξολογία!



The group has funded the purchase of the latest specialised equipment for diagnosing and treating cancer, blood diseases and blood disorders. It is also recruiting a second massage and reflexology therapist, and has helped with the refurbishment of Anchor unit clinics, wards and patient day rooms.
