Hippocratic massage through Hippocrates Humoral theory Are you visiting Athens and would like to experience an original therapeutic session in Hippocratic medicine! It begins with a dialogue to establish the constitution (sanguine, choleric, melancholic or phlegm) of the client according to Hippocrates famous humoral theory, to record any issue(s) and plan with the client his or her unique treatment protocol of the day. What follows of course is the main treatment combining Reflexology and massage. The Greek word for massage is “anatrispsis” and Hippocrates used it in his teachings. The most common medium used in massage is oil, but in the Hippocrates approach it is olive oil blended with chamomile. Or as a medium the therapist’s bare hands may be used, or talcum, or cloths and even brushes are used depending on the initial consultation. Finishing off suggestions on lifestyle will be given to the client to practice in their everyday life in order to balance or maintain humoral equilibrium and wellness. Spiros Dimitrakoulas is the owner and therapist of BODYWORX, practicing since 1992. Many years ago he studied the teachings of Hippocrates and has originated Hippocrates massage through these ancient teachings. Spiros teaches these methods in Greece and around the world. He also specializes in high performance athletics and is well known in Greece for his work in this direction. He has also worked at the major pain clinic of Greece in the Aretaieio hospital.
