Ένταξη της Ρεφλεξολογίας στον αναπτυσσόμενο(?) τουριστικό τομέα υγείας και ευεξίας.

Το ακόλουθο κείμενο κοινοποιείται
ώστε να το χρησιμοποιήσουν όλοι οι ενδιαφερόμενοι με τον καλύτερο δυνατό τρόπο για την δίκαιη ένταξη της Ρεφλεξολογίας στις υπηρεσίες ιαματικού και ευεξίας τουρισμού.

Στις 29 Μαΐου στάλθηκε στο μέλος του ΔΣ του ΠΕΣΡ Ελένη Βασιλείου ώστε να χρησιμοποιηθεί με τον καλύτερο τρόπο. Είμαι βέβαιος ότι θα το προχωρήσουν.

Σας παραθέτω ως απόδειξη για του λόγου το αληθές, αποκομμένη εικόνα από τον διάλογο μου με το μέλος του ΔΣ του ΠΕΣΡ.

Επίσης στάλθηκε και στον διευθυντή του ΕΟΤ κατόπιν υπόδειξης του, ο οποίος δυστυχώς,
ακόμα δεν έχει απαντήσει.


Πολλές φορές μου έχετε πει ότι γνωρίζετε "ανθρώπους"που μπορούν να βοηθήσουν σχετικά με το επάγγελμα μας, ...να η ευκαιρία σας.

Ευχή και επιθυμία μου είναι να πάρετε τα στοιχεία - επιχειρήματα που παραθέτω, να προσθέσετε σε αυτά,να τα βελτιώσετε, και να τα χρησιμοποιήσετε κατά τον καλύτερο τρόπο για την επαγγελματική μας αποκατάσταση και εξέλιξη της Ρεφλεξολογίας.

Σημείωση - στα πρακτικά του ΠΕΣΡ γράφεται ότι την συγκεκριμένη πρόταση την είχε κάνει ο Θ.Τ., αυτό είναι λάθος! Στην γενική μας συνέλευση την πρόταση την είχα κάνει εγώ, και ομολογουμένως καθυστερημένα,την έστειλα στο μέλος του ΔΣ όπως και είχα πει ότι θα έκανα.

Ύποπτο θεωρώ ότι "άλλος" προβαίνει σε ισχυρισμούς που περιγράφονται στο κείμενο, .....ας είναι για το καλό όλων μας.

Το Σωματείο Ελλήνων Ρεφλεξολόγων (ΣΕΡ) www.reflexology.gr από την ίδρυση του, το 1992, προχωρεί σε κινήσεις για την εξέλιξη και προαγωγή της Ρεφλεξολογίας αλλά και των μελών Ρεφλεξολόγων του σωματείου μας.
Να σας ενημερώσουμε ότι τα τελευταία χρόνια η Ρεφλεξολογία εφαρμόζεται εθελοντικά μέσω των μελών του ΣΕΡ, αλλά και των μελών σχολών εκπαίδευσης του ΣΕΡ,

• στον Ξενώνα Αγγέλια στη Ν. Μάκρη,
• στο Οικοτροφείο Άγιος Νικόλαος στην Παιανία,
• στον τερματισμό του Κλασσικού Μαραθωνίου Αθηνών
• Εταιρεία για τη Σκλήρυνση κατά Πλάκας.

Αρχική επιθυμία μας είναι να εξεταστεί η δυναμική ένταξη των υπηρεσιών Ρεφλεξολογίας στον αναπτυσσόμενο τομέα του Ιαματικού – Ευεξίας τουρισμού δημιουργώντας και εξασφαλίζοντας θέσεις εργασίας για ≥600 Έλληνες Ρεφλεξολόγους.
Να σημειωθεί ότι το ελάχιστο της εκπαίδευσης που έχει ορίσει το ΣΕΡ είναι από τα υψηλότερα στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση.
Επίσης σας ενημερώνουμε για τον Κωδικό Αριθμό Δραστηριότητας από το Υπουργείο Οικονομικών - Υπηρεσίες Ρεφλεξολογίας 86.90.19.12
Το αίτημα μας θα διαπιστώσετε και από το ακόλουθο παράδειγμα της Ταιβάν, είναι δίκαιο, ικανοποιείται, και είναι προς το συμφέρον της βιομηχανίας του Ελληνικού Τουρισμού, των Ελλήνων Ρεφλεξολόγων και των αποδεκτών υπηρεσιών ευεξίας/υγείας.
Το 2008 το Υπουργείο Τουρισμού της Ταϊβάν πραγματοποίησε ειδική εκδήλωση όπου κατέρριψε το Παγκόσμιο Ρεκόρ Γκίνες στην κατηγορία "Οι περισσότεροι άνθρωποι που δέχτηκαν Ρεφλεξολογία/μάλαξη ποδιών συγχρόνως - Most people receiving reflexology/foot massage simultaneously" με σκοπό την διαφήμιση του Ιαματικού/ευεξίας τουρισμού.

Επίσης να σας ενημερώσουμε ότι ενώ (λανθασμένα) προσδίδεται η προέλευση της Ρεφλεξολογίας στην Ασία, δεν υπάρχουν καταγεγραμμένα στοιχεία που να αποδεικνύουν αυτόν τον ισχυρισμό!
Στην πραγματικότητα, οι ρίζες της τεχνικής που σήμερα ονομάζουμε Ρεφλεξολογία, εντοπίζονται στην Αρχαία Ελλάδα και συγκεκριμένα στην Ιπποκρατική συλλογή.

Νέο βιβλίο κρούει των κώδωνα του κινδύνου για τις ΣΕΘ - Steve Jobs' και Barrie Cassileth. Η Ρεφλεξολογία δεν (ακόμα) αναφέρεται.

Book raises alarms about alternative medicine.

The girl's story illustrates the serious but often little-known risks posed by some forms of alternative medicine, a loosely regulated industry that includes everything from herbal supplements to crystal healing and acupuncture, says Offit, author of Do You Believe in Magic? The Sense and Nonsense of Alternative Medicine, (HarperCollins, $29.99), being published Tuesday

Many consumers view alternative medicine industry as more altruistic and home-spun than Big Pharma. But in his book, Offit paints a picture of an aggressive, $34 billion a year industry whose key players are adept at using lawsuits, lobbyists and legislation to protect their market.

Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., who has long fought for stricter regulation of supplements, says the alternative medicine industry is "as tough as any industry I've seen lobby in Washington. They have a lot of money at stake. They want to maximize their profits and they want as little regulation as possible."

Apple founder Steve Jobs' faith in alternative medicine likely cost him his life, says Barrie Cassileth, chief of integrative medicine at New York's Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Jobs was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2003. But Jobs, revered as one of the brightest minds on the planet, chose to delay surgery, the only treatment that had a chance to save his life, Cassileth says.
For nine months after his diagnosis, Offit writes, Jobs treated his cancer with acupuncture, herbs, bowel cleansings and a special diet of carrots and fruit juices.
Jobs eventually had surgery, and even a liver transplant. But it was too late.
He died in 2011, eight years after diagnosis.
"He had the only kind of pancreatic cancer that is treatable and curable," Cassileth says. "He essentially committed suicide."

Ενοποιημένη Ιατρική από έναν Καναδό Ψυχίατρο!

Doctor on the alternative route to mental health.

As the research chair of the Canadian Institute of Natural and Integrative Medicine and the associate clinical professor of medicine at the University of Calgary, Rickhi says if mental illnesses continue to be ignored, this could result in serious social and economic costs.

Between 1987 and 1993, while working as the deputy director of the psychiatry department at the Calgary General Hospital, Rickhi was recognised by the World Heath Organisation (WHO) for excellence in epidemiology, forensic and mood disorders. This afforded him the opportunity to work with the WHO on research projects on mental health medicine, particularly in developing countries.

“At that time,” he said, “Dr Julio Arboleda Florez, a very forward WHO thinker, asked my opinion about where I thought medicine was going to be heading in the future. I felt it was in the area of complementary medicine and he and other members of WHO encouraged me to explore these areas further.”

He later began studies in traditional Chinese, Ayurvedic and Tibetan medicine as well as electronic homeopathy. In 2004 and 2005, as a member of the Bravewell Fellowship Advisory Committee, Rickhi worked on the development of a blueprint for the implementation of integrative health care clinics in conventional medical settings.

Asked to explain integrative health care, Rickhi described it as “the union of different paradigms of conventional and other medical therapies.”

He said non-conventional therapy looked at physical and spiritual aspects of a person as a well as mind function. It also deals with the concept that the body has the potential to heal itself if it is given the opportunity to do so.

Ayurvedic Reflexology – SMART 1

Η Αγιουρβεδική Ρεφλεξολογία αποτελεί το αποτέλεσμα του συγκερασμού,  μεταξύ των αυθεντικών Ινδικών πρακτικών της Αγιουρβέδας, και αυτές της σύγχρονης Ρεφλεξολογίας. Το τελικό αποτέλεσμα αποτελεί ισχυρό εφόδιο για την εργασία στα ενεργειακά συστήματα του σώματος.

Η Σάρον εδώ και χρόνια αφοσιώθηκε στο να συμπυκνώσει το πολύπλοκο Αγιουρβεδικό σύστημα σε μία ευκόλως κατανοήσιμη μορφή για δυτικούς επαγγελματίες σωματοθεραπευτές.

Eκπαίδευση ρεφλεξολογίας για άτομα με προβλήματα όρασης - Magic in their hands

It was Naturals Co-founder C.H. Ashok Kumar’s idea to bring the visually impaired into the mainstream through such employment options.

“During my trips to countries like Malasiya and China, I witnessed that the profession of reflexology is dominated by people who cannot see. I decided to promote the idea back in our country. The reflexology therapy that already existed here was not as profitable a service as we expected it to be. By employing and training the visually impaired at Naturals would be a win-win situation for both of us.”

Following this, Naturals reflexology began to collaborate with NIVH for this programme, where the Salon and Spa outlet not only trains the visually impaired in reflexology but also employs them.

Naturals reflexology was launched recently by Daniel Kish of Thandavam fame and the President of World Access for the Blind, who also trained these reflexology therapists in eco-location and mobility.

Reflexology for inmates in Taiwan

Europe has given the world of Reflexology many exceptional Reflexologists, them being practitioners, educators and/or innovators.
One famous European who you probably already know is Father Josef Eugster from Switzerland. We read today that... the Father is into something new, he is teaching Reflexology to inmates in two prisons of Taiwan!!

His motive for this is “I want them to start a new life … to be more caring people by learning the virtue of humility from foot massage”.

Ida Rolf και Ρεφλεξολογία

Σύμφωνα με την Dr. Ida Rolf στο βιβλίο “Rolfing and Physical Reality”: "Τα σημεία των μεσημβρινών και της Ρεφλεξολογίας είναι πιθανόν "τερματικά σημεία" μυοπεριτοναϊκής έντασης, αποτελέσμα της ανισσοροπίας που μεταδίδει την δυσκολία να αντισταθμίσει μέσω του σώματος στην επιφάνεια.  Περιτοναϊκά επίπεδα ίσως να είναι η οδός μηχανικής μετάδοσης του πόνου. Ανέφερε επίσης "Τα ανακλαστικά του ποδιού είναι σημεία κορύφωσης της έντασης, δεν είναι κάτι μυστηριώδης; είναι εκεί που καταλήγει η ένταση στο πόδι. Όταν ανακουφίζεις ένταση πάνω από τα ανακλαστικά σημεία (π.χ. αστράγαλο-κνήμη) θα ανακουφίσεις τα σημεία έντασης στο πέλμα του ποδιού. Όταν ένα φορτίο κατευθύνεται προς τα κάτω και "πεθαίνει" κάπου, γίνεται ανακλαστικό σημείο." Και "Νομίζω ότι πολλά εάν όχι όλα τα ανακλαστικά σημεία στο πόδι είναι απλά σημεία όπου βαρύτητας ένταση εισέρχεται και μορφοποιείται. Είναι το τέλος της πορείας που ονομάζουμε ισορροπία"

Fascial planes may be the route of mechanical transmission of pain." She also mentioned "Foot reflexes are peaks of strains. The...y are nothing mystical; they are where strain goes in the foot. If you are relieving strain above the reflex points (for example in the ankle and shin) you will relieve those points of strain in the sole of the foot. And "I think that many if not all reflex points in the foot are simply points where gravitational strain inserts and comes together. They are the end of the line we call balance"

Osteopathy's Connection to the Feet
An interesting point to consider in Chapman's work is that nowhere are the feet or hands involved as sites to be worked. However, we do know that sensory neurons are plentiful in the soles of the feet and palms of the hands. Joe Shelby Riley may have reached this same conclusion and adapted Chapman's concept, which he knew about through his own osteopathic training, to the feet and hands while coupling reflexes with Fitzgerald's work with zones. Riley's charts are the oldest that map the various "reflex" points on the feet. Riley's work was further refined, expanded and popularized by Ingham who worked as his assistant for several months during two successive winters in Florida prior to the publication of her first book.

With Chapman's concepts in mind, the palpation to the receptors on the feet may support much of the same principles. First, sensitivity in the soft tissue of the foot, [e.g., pain upon palpatory pressure] may affect the body as the fascia forms lesions and adversely affects biomechanical movement. Removal of articular lesions coupled with the hormonal activation triggering an endocrine response, stimulation to the circulatory and lymphatic systems, and all nervous systems makes reflexology a very powerful and holistic therapy. Additionally, the proper alignment of the joints in reflexognosy produces relief of tension to the segmental dysfunction of the dermatomes, resulting in the relaxation of muscular tension and nerves throughout the body. The reduction of pain results as normalization of receptor activity moves toward normal muscle tone. The relaxation process will reverberate up the spinal column and through the autonomic nerve ganglia to the organs and other parts of the body due to the close ties between the central nervous system and the autonomic nervous system.

Ingham simplifies this in Stories the Feet Have Told by writing, "If any degree of tenderness is found in those reflexes in that part of the foot relative to the spine, then by applying this form of compression massage to that area you will relax the muscle tension surrounding that vertebra."11 In fact, the actual processes the practitioner has affected includes structural alignment, which produces reduced tension on the fascia that may result in improved circulation and pain reduction, improving overall health.

Abstract

BACKGROUND:

Reflexology is an alternative medical practice that produces beneficial effects by applying pressure to specific reflex areas. Our previous study suggested that reflexological stimulation induced cortical activation in somatosensory cortex corresponding to the stimulated reflex area; however, we could not rule out the possibility of a placebo effect resulting from instructions given during the experimental task. We used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate how reflexological stimulation of the reflex area is processed in the primary somatosensory cortex when correct and pseudo-information about the reflex area is provided. Furthermore, the laterality of activation to the reflexological stimulation was investigated.

METHODS:

Thirty-two healthy Japanese volunteers participated. The experiment followed a double-blind design. Half of the subjects received correct information, that the base of the second toe was the eye reflex area, and pseudo-information, that the base of the third toe was the shoulder reflex area. The other half of the subjects received the opposite information. fMRI time series data were acquired during reflexological stimulation to both feet. The experimenter stimulated each reflex area in accordance with an auditory cue. The fMRI data were analyzed using a conventional two-stage approach. The hemodynamic responses produced by the stimulation of each reflex area were assessed using a general linear model on an intra-subject basis, and a two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance was performed on an intersubject basis to determine the effect of reflex area laterality and information accuracy.

RESULTS:

Our results indicated that stimulation of the eye reflex area in either foot induced activity in the left middle postcentral gyrus, the area to which tactile sensation to the face projects, as well as in the postcentral gyrus contralateral foot representation area. This activity was not affected by pseudo information. The results also indicate that the relationship between the reflex area and the projection to the primary somatosensory cortex has a lateral pattern that differs from that of the actual somatotopical representation of the body.

CONCLUSION:

These findings suggest that a robust relationship exists between neural processing of somatosensory percepts for reflexological stimulation and the tactile sensation of a specific reflex area.

Obituary – Pirjo Södermann - Sweden

A fantastic woman has taking her last journey!

Pirjo was that kind of a person you simply liked.
A highly respected reflexologist, well known in Scandinavia, Europe and around the world, has taking her l...ast journey of life. As, for many other people in the world, Cancer became the challenge she couldn’t fight.

Pirjo started to work with reflexology in 1994. A few years later, at the International Council of reflexologist’s conference in London 1997, we were a group of reflexologists who talked about establishing a Nordic and European Reflexology Education and Research Group. Pirjo became the coordinator of the education group and I got the pleasure of coordination the research activities.
During many years she had lots of meetings with reflexologists from around the world. Working side by side, we had the pleasure of listen, learning and taking part of the task to making reflexology grow as a profession, for the benefit of the clients.

If there is a person to be mention in future history books regarding reflexology, its Pirjo.

Especially - her work - in The Swedish Association “KroppsteraputernasYrkesförbund” - and - The Nordic, as well as the European Reflexology Network” (NRN and RiEN).
She was a wonderful colleague working – among many other things - with the project “ Reflexology Clients in Sweden”. The results of the study that were published at the respected ICCMR research conference in Chengdu, China 2011.
Pirjo knew what she wanted. Regarding to her job, she often said to me: “Security, Quality and Seriousness are my cornerstones”.

No words can describe Pirjos personality. She was always smiling, full of life and energy - with a deep respect for other people. No matter which country or which culture a person came from, Pirjo was simply that kind of person that always will be a part of you, some way or another. I´ll thank her dearly by heart for every second we have had together! She will always be part of my life and many others as well. Honor to her memory.

Follow up on the Reflexology ban in Uganda

Do you remember the Reflexology ban in 2011 by the then Minister of Health Dr Stephen Mallinga in Uganda? here

The reflexology ban in Uganda has caused great hardship to many reflexologists. Staff at TASO (The AIDS Support Organisation) and Hospice Africa (Uganda) report that the clients / patients were having regular reflexology treatments which were helping to relieve their stressful and painful symptoms. They are all missing out on this very comforting therapy and also the skilled therapists, who had passed the written and practical exams, may lose their expertise in reflexology if they do not use it. Well it seems the ban is now over. here and here:
"It is apparent that the council did not share their findings with the reflexologists. I find that the applicants were not given a right to defend themselves, which was wrong," the judge said.
The practitioners were also awarded for costs incurred. The ruling implies that the practitioners can resume their activities including advertisements in the media which had previously been halted.

Reflexology is the application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas on the feet, hands, or ears.
Government ordered to compensate reflexology practitioners for having closed them illegaly.

Appreciation for all her hard work over the years, heart-felt congratulations and the honour of winning such a prestigious award were paid to Betsy Keating by the International Council of Reflexologists Betsy was nominated and won the Humanitarian Award 2011. She was presented with a stunning Crystal Globe Trophy in Sheffield on January 13, 2012. This was given in recognition of her pioneer work developing Reflexology services and training in Uganda and in other areas of need in the UK.

Considerations
- I remember that those Reflexologists where supposedely wearing stethoscopes and taking blood samples. If this was true, was it still correct to ban them or not?
- If the previous was true, have the Reflexologists gotten their act together now or not?
- Why was the Attorney General not represented at the ruling. If he was, what would have been the outcome then. here
- How many Reflexologists around the world actually knew about this ban?
- Why did they not take any action to support our fellow colleagues? Only 32 signed the petition!

Οι τελειόφοιτοι του Κέντρου Ρεφλεξολογίας και Έρευνας, θα παρουσιάσουν τις προσεγγίσεις τους σε θέματα σχετικά με τη Ρεφλεξολογία, το πεπτικό σύστημα, τον συναισθηματικό νου, την υγεία, την ευεξία και την ποιότητα ζωής, τα οποία έχουν επεξεργαστεί κατά τη διάρκεια της διετούς εκπαίδευσής τους.

Το ανάγλυφο στο εξώφυλλο βρέθηκε πίσω από το Ά Στρατιωτικό Νοσοκομείο το 1905 και φωτογραφήθηκε από τον ιατρό Αρ. Π. Αραβαντινό για το βιβλίο του Ασκληπιός και Ασκληπιεία (1907). Στο κάτω μέρος του ανάγλυφου υπάρχει η επιγραφή ΣΙΛΩΝ ΑΝΕΘΗΚΕ. Ο ιατρός Αραβαντινός μη μπορώντας να ερμηνεύσει την αποτύπωση του ανθρώπου εντός του σανδαλιού στάθηκε στην ερμηνεία του συμβόλου του όφεως, που συνοδεύει πάντα τα αγάλματα τόσο της Υγείας όσο και του Ασκληπιού. Ο όφις λοιπόν, ο οποίος αποβάλλει το παλαιό του δέρμα και την θέση του παίρνει ένα νέο, συμβολίζει την αναζωογόνηση και ανανέωση του οργανισμού.

 Σήμερα όμως έχοντας υπ' όψιν μας την επιστήμη της Ρεφλεξολογίας είμαστε σε θέση να ερμηνεύσουμε σε νέα βάση το ανάγλυφο. Διατηρώντας τις σημαντικές περί του όφεως παρατηρήσεις διαπιστώνουμε ότι στο σύνολό του εκφράζει την αναζωογόνηση και ανανέωση ολόκληρου του ανθρωπίνου σώματος μέσω του άκρου πόδα. Θα παρατηρήσουμε όμως ότι η αντανάκλαση του σώματος στον πόδα γίνεται κατά αντίθετη φορά από τους σύγχρονους ρεφλεξολογικούς χάρτες. Το κεφάλι βρίσκεται στο ύψος της πτέρνας ενώ οι πόδες στις φάλαγγες. Επίσης παρατηρούμε ότι το σανδάλι που αφιέρωσε ο Σίλων είναι το δεξί και ο άνθρωπος που απεικονίζεται (πιθανότατα ο ίδιος ο Σίλων) φανερώνει την δεξιά του πλευρά. Το στοιχείο αυτό επιβεβαιώνει την θεωρία των κάθετων ζωνών και του χωρισμού των αριστερών - δεξιών οργάνων και λειτουργιών στον αριστερό - δεξιό αντίστοιχα πόδα.
